The Housing Crisis: Strategies to Support Survivors and Communities
Lack of affordable housing is a nationwide crisis that disproportionately impacts vulnerable populations, including survivors of gender-based violence. Many domestic violence survivors remain in unsafe situations when they don’t have access to stable and affordable housing. A high percentage of people experiencing homelessness are survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and trafficking. Sexual harassment by landlords and others can also affect housing stability. Structural issues such as lack of economic opportunity, low wages, and racism create greater burdens for many survivors.
This virtual convening will explore funding and policies affecting housing assistance programs, highlight community-based strategies to help survivors obtain safe housing, address sexual harassment in housing, and provide an overview of the current housing landscape.
